Baking bread is a lifetime learning curve. There are so many different types of bread, different techniques and varying kit to cook in.
I find making bread very relaxing and I really enjoy the ambition of trying to perfect each type of bread. It doesn’t always work and there is a lot of head scratching when it doesn’t go right. Practice is the key and understanding the science behind bread making.
I’ll never claim to be a master baker and I still have a lot to learn, but I’m improving each time I bake. The added joy for me is cooking bread outside in my woodfired oven. Starting the fire in the lower oven; getting the top oven up to temperature; watching the bread rise through the glass door in the top oven and smelling the aroma of baking bread – pure magic!
Although I search all over the internet for baking support and inspiration I have to thank Paul Hollywood for getting me started. I would highly recommend his books to get started in baking.
